So I leave the house today at 8:30 and the temp on the Weather Channel is already 49 degrees. I figure, this is January and I am riding in 50 degree temps. Maybe the island of Evansville isn't that bad. Not until I turn out of the garage and on the road do I realize that I should have paid much more attention to that whole wind chill factor that they were babbling about. It seems there was a bit of a north wind and it sucked.
I slogged for an hour into the wind up to the group ride, then it got as dark as night as it was about to rain, so we took off trying to avoid the storm. We went north of town and the wind picked up, the temp dropped some and we got beat around Het Volk style. There was a solid group of six of us that did a fair amount of taking our turns getting beat up by the wind, and then we got to experience the joys of a tailwind. It was a pretty good ride, and since I rode up I ended up with 71 miles in 3.75 hours.
The best news of the day was that Skip had on his new shifters, so he had more than the 39x15/53x15 he had been using.
When is Het Volk again?
